World Class Team Performance Award Earned By WLMS and Facilities Department

On Wednesday morning, September 23rd, Dr. Cousin, Superintendent of the HCPSS, presented the World Class Team Performance Award to all of the workers who helped to upgrade WLMS this past summer. Also at the award ceremony were Dr. Terry Alban, HCPSS Chief Operating Officer and Mr. Ken Roey, Executive Director, Facilities Planning and Management.

Dr. Cousin said, "I want to thank all of the workers who helped to improve this school. This is an example of how when we work together we can achieve great things!" I want to echo Dr. Cousin's statement and thank the employess of the HCPSS for enhancing the learning environment for our students. I especially want to commend the WLMS custodial staff for doing an outstanding job this summer.

During the reception, a WLMS student read a thank you letter written to Dr. Cousin. She thanked him on behalf of all of the WLMS students for helping to improve their school. She mentioned how much she appreciated the increased security, removal of poorly placed lockers, the newly enclosed classrooms and the painted lines on the black top.

MiddleWeb Highlights "Lessons Learned in the Middle" Blog

Recently, John Norton, the editor of MiddleWeb, contacted me with the exciting news that he had decided to add "Lessons Learned in the Middle" to his collection of middle school blogs highlighted in the "Middle School Diaries" section of his site. MiddleWeb is the leading online resource for middle level educators and provides a wealth of resources for schools, districts, educators, parents, and public school advocates working to raise achievement for all students in the middle grades.

According to their website, MiddleWeb was established in 1996 with grant support from the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation's Program for Student Achievement, which focused its grantmaking on middle school improvement. In July 2003, MiddleWeb's grant support ended. They are now supported by a single advertiser, Stenhouse Publishers, and by the volunteer efforts of members of the MiddleWeb Community.

It is a great site, check it out when you have time! Here is MiddleWeb's link: http://www.middleweb.com/

ELMS Students Sing ELMO's World For Me!

This past week, Ms. Stokes and Ms. Rout, the Elkridge Landing Middle School Administrators, sent to me a video showing their seventh graders singing the ELMO's World theme song. Wow, it was great to receive this video and to see so many of my former students doing so well. Thanks for remembering me and for doing such a great job singing. You made my day!

I wish all of my friends at ELMS a very successful school year. Please make sure you strive to make the honor roll and follow the ELMS Expectations each and everyday!

While I continue to miss my friends, students and former staff in Elkridge, I am happy to report that I am really enjoying my new school. The WLMS students, staff and families have been really supportive and friendly. I feel blessed to be in another great school!

All the best,

Mr. Saunders
